The Objective
The goal is to flip down ("shut") as many numbered flaps as possible. A perfect game shuts all flaps, resulting in a score of zero, which is called "Shutting the Box".
How to Play
On your turn, roll the dice. Click flaps to highlight them. Once the highlighted flaps equal the total sum of your roll exactly, they will permanently shut, and you can roll again. You continue rolling and shutting flaps until you roll a number that you cannot make with your remaining open flaps. At this point, click "End Turn". The human player always rolls first.
Scoring Variations
- Standard / Golf: The player with the lowest score wins. If you shut the box, you win automatically. Your score is the mathematical sum of the numbers remaining open.
- Backsliding Missionary: Strict rules apply. If the individual numbers rolled on the dice are both currently open, you must select those two exact flaps. If either is already shut, you may use the total sum or any other valid combination.
- Digital: The remaining numbers are concatenated together to form a large number. For example, leaving the 1, 2, and 5 open results in a score of 125.
The Oracle
- An advisor, not a boss. After any of your rolls, press 🔮 Oracle. The decision stays yours.
- It lists every legal combination for your roll and ranks them by your chance of winning the round. Each line also shows the chance of a tie, the chance of shutting the box, and your average final score. The best combination comes first with a reason, and the line matching your highlighted flaps is marked "yours."
- Exact odds, not a simulation. With 12 flaps and two dice there are only 4,096 possible boards, so every roll that could follow is counted. In these counts your later rolls, and the computer's whole turn, are played by the computer's own rule: shut the highest numbers first. The variation's rules (Missionary, Digital) are respected.
- Two combinations that come out exactly equal are reported as equal. The Action & Scoring Log records what the Oracle advised and what you shut.
