How to Play Farkle
Object of the Game: Be the first player to reach 10,000 points.
Basic Gameplay:
- On your turn, roll all six dice.
- You must select at least one scoring die (e.g., a 1, a 5, or a three-of-a-kind) to keep points.
- After selecting scoring dice, you can either Bank your points and pass the turn, or Roll the remaining unselected dice to accumulate more points.
- If you roll and get zero scoring dice, you FARKLE! You lose all points accumulated during that turn, and your turn ends immediately.
Key Strategies & Rules:
- Getting on the Board: You must score at least 500 points in a single turn to officially get "on the board." You cannot bank your score until you meet this opening requirement.
- Hot Dice: If you manage to score with all six dice (either all at once or by locking them incrementally over several rolls), you achieve "Hot Dice." You get to pick up all six dice and roll again, adding to your current turn score.
The Oracle:
- An advisor, not a boss. After any of your rolls, press 🔮 Oracle. The decision stays yours.
- It lists every legal way to set dice aside, each paired with bank or roll again, and ranks them. The best option comes first with a plain-language reason, and the line matching your current selection is marked "yours."
- What it ranks by: normally the average points your turn will end with. When you are not yet on the board (500 needed) or within 2,000 points of winning, it ranks by the chance of reaching that target instead, and says so.
- How: each option is played out 50,000 times on the shared Monte Carlo engine used across tedponderings.com. Later rolls in a play-out are decided by the same keep-and-roll rules the computer players use, including always rolling again on hot dice. Your table options (300 minimum, hot-dice bonus, farkle penalty) are respected.
- The chance of farkling on the very next roll is exact, not simulated, and is shown for each roll-again option. Every simulated figure carries a 95% margin, shown in the fine print; two options within that margin of each other are statistically tied.
- Turn History shows what the Oracle advised and what you did.
